Davyhulme East - Steve Tennant

I have lived in Davyhulme East for over 20 years this time round. I joined the Green Party in 2014 having become disillusioned with the other mainstream parties while campaigning to save our NHS.

I am proud that Trafford Green Party have got the council to agree to stop the use of Glyphosate weed killer. I am concerned about the loss of trees and vegetation in our parks and streets and the resulting loss of wildlife habitat and increase in air pollution.

I would like to see Trafford Council actively promote an #EnginesOff campaign, such as that run by the Idling Action Project, which seeks to educate on and change behaviours around car idling – where motorists leave their engines running while parked – in order to reduce air pollution.

It has been enforced since 2014 in Islington and subsequently taken up by 34 local authorities in London.

There is emerging evidence that air pollution is linked to poor recovery and higher infection rates of Covid-19 due to damage caused to the lungs.

While Trafford gives the issue a cursory mention on its website, https://www.trafford.gov.uk/residents/environment/pollution/Engine-idling.aspx, they are lagging years behind the action and urgency needed to even begin and tackle this problem.
