Longford - Margaret Westbrook

This year, more than ever, after the experience of the pandemic together with the imminent threats from climate change, it is clear we need Greens in the room at every level. Internationally, nationally and regionally we fight hard to tackle the injustices and environmental threats we face and to promote a Green New Deal, as we know it is possible to Build Back Better with policies like Universal Basic Income for all. In Trafford our three dedicated councillors in Altrincham ward have worked hard to get a Climate Emergency motion passed and to ensure it is being implemented. They have also brought other motions to council, including the eradication of the use of glyphosate and its threat to our health across the borough.

I have lived in Longford ward for over 40 years and have been involved in the development of Friends of Longford Park (FOLP) during the past 20 years. FOLP has questioned the issue of the boundary between Trafford and Manchester on Ryebank Fields and is supportive of the work by the Friends there to raise the importance of this space for the future, as I would be. I am a volunteer with Stretford Public Hall and am keen to see us find effective ways to support our local community and so help to ensure that no-one suffers unnecessarily as we come out of lockdown. As a grandparent of 3 young girls, all of whom are Trafford residents, I want to see us promote safe cycling and walking, to tackle air pollution across our borough and to protect our green spaces - in fact to Build Back Better for all.

I would be honoured to receive your vote and work with colleagues in the Green Group to help to tackle the climate and biodiversity emergency with hope for the future.
