Michael often hears from residents concerned about the shortage of secondary school places for local students. Some have to travel several miles to school.
Loreto prep school in Altrincham has recently closed. Next door North Cestrian school is interested in expanding onto the vacant site. This could create up to 300 additional school places.
The council does have funding to expand the number of places at existing schools. Michael is in touch with senior council staff and the head of the school about the proposal. An Asset of Community Value application has been submitted to give the school longer to organise the purchase of the site.
MICHAEL SAID
"We urgently need more school places for our local children. Re-using a school that has closed looks like a sensible and sustainable option. We are asking the council and government to work quickly to see if North Cestrian can expand onto the site."
