Longford Ward

Matthew Kaufman

Over the past decade I have seen the beginnings of a great, community-led regeneration taking place in Stretford: from the restoration of the Public Hall and the opening of new nightlife ventures, to pop-up markets and live music and Viking Festivals taking place in Victoria Park.

I believe that this proud, community-driven spirit of revitalisation must be met equally by a local council which stands for more than incremental improvements to our roads, pathways and bicycle lanes, and long-promised but little-seen redevelopment of our historic town centre.

A driving ideology of the Green Party is sustainably through renewability. As your councillor I will work on behalf of local residents to help ensure the continued renewal of Stretford.

I've lived in Stretford for 17 years and I really like the sense of community and the green spaces we have here. We have all appreciated how important these things are for our wellbeing over the past year.

I want to see measures to make walking and cycling around the area more accessible, safer and pleasant. I cycle to work on a daily basis and make nearly all my local journeys on foot or bike, but it's not always easy. The boom in cycling when our streets were quiet showed me just how far we have to go to make active travel accessible.

I think that the Green councillors we have in Trafford have done a great job of helping local people look after their area, and to make sure that the climate change emergency is taken seriously. I know we must urgently do more to look after our environment and biodiversity, as well as to support people and families who are struggling to make their way.

I have lived in Longford ward for almost 50 years and brought up my family here and love our area. I am a committee member of Friends of Longford Park; one of the Community Allotment gardeners and a volunteer with Stretford Public Hall. I was involved with the campaign to preserve Turn Moss and am also keen to see the Ryebank fields area preserved for local people rather than development.

I have three young granddaughters and believe that we need to act swiftly to tackle the issue of climate change at every level in society to try to make their futures and the futures of all our children brighter. I want to see a world where there is so much more equality and where we welcome those who seek asylum and would work for these ends.

As a founder member of Trafford Green Party, I am proud to see that we now have a growing voice in council. We have a team of hard working councillors and I would be honoured should you give me your vote to enable me to join this team to work hard on your behalf.
