Davyhulme West - Andrew Horner

Global problems need local solutions. The pandemic has shown that where centralised approaches (such as Test and Trace) failed, the vaccination roll-out succeeded by devolving to local expertise. Local action by local people is also needed to deal with the even bigger challenge of climate change.

As a business analyst in the pensions industry, I spend my working life dealing with long term risk. There is none greater than climate change. Big changes are needed in our economy to reach net zero emissions by 2050. Local people must be involved in making those changes work for Trafford residents and businesses in ways that improve our quality of life.

I am passionate about education. I have two children, one in primary and one in secondary, and served for eight years as a governor of my local primary school. The past year has seen massive disruption to our children’s education and wellbeing. Even those with good home learning set-ups are behind where they should be; those who are less fortunate will be very far behind. It is essential that the Council and community pulls together to support schools as they help children to recover.

Trafford has been my home since I was in the pram. No matter how far away I got, I always came back here. I am proud to be the Green Party candidate in Davyhulme West, where I lived as a young adult and where I cast my first vote.
