Lostock And Barton Ward Green Party Candidate For Local Elections May 2nd 2024

Steve Bowater

In the 64 years I've lived in Stretford, I've witnessed the increasing man-made destruction of the environment, from loss of Green Belt land, microplastics in our seas and rivers, pollution and loss of wildlife.

I've also seen the alarming rise of Global Warming as an issue, something that in the 70's wasn't given a second thought, but is now a problem that is already affecting millions, from changing weather patterns that reduce crops and create floods, to rising sea levels.

Although these are world-wide problems, local politicians can also make a big difference, through protecting Green Belt and wildlife habitats, planting trees, giving people a safe alternative to driving with safe walking, cycling routes and better public transport, reducing household costs with better insulation.

Throughout most of my life, one political party alone has put the environment at the top of the political agenda - the Green Party.

I've been impressed how already the small team of Green councillors have made an impact on Trafford Council, for example getting a Vision Zero Policy (zero road deaths by 2040) and a Climate Emergency Plan adopted by the Council.

Hopefully with so much at stake for the future of the planet, you will give Green Party candidates your vote this May. The more Green councillors that are elected, the more we can do to protect the planet.
