Sale Central Ward Green Party Candidate For Local Elections May 2nd 2024

David Turner

I've lived in Sale for over thirty years and was a Biology teacher for all of that time until I retired . When I was a teacher I never missed an opportunity to remind my students of the dangers of climate change. I'm standing for the Green Party because I believe that with our policies we can navigate our way through the climate emergency.

Reducing traffic based pollution by promoting cycling and the greater use of public transport and preserving green spaces are my main concerns. The borough has a smaller percentage of the latter than any other similar area in the greater Manchester conurbation. Theses spaces are important for all of us particularly in terms of our mental health and also make a significant contribution to maintaining biodiversity. I equally feel that a much greater attention should be be given to the promotion of brown field housing developments that are both energy efficient and affordable.

Nationally the progress towards net zero is proceeding far too slowly and it is essential that more Green Party councillors are elected so at least at the local level environmental issues remain at the forefront of council decisions.
