Altrincham Ward Green Party Candidate For Local Elections May 2nd 2024

Michael Welton

Representing Altrincham on Trafford Council is an honour. Dan, Geraldine and I get to meet so many kind local people, and I always enjoy a chat about local issues and what is going on at the council. The best part of being a councillor is helping residents when there is a problem they need solving.

Over the last year we’ve had some big successes. A community energy scheme I introduced to Wellington School has installed 946 solar panels on the school roof. We’ve seen major improvements in the town centre, particularly the raingardens that are adding colour and reducing flooding risk. I’ve also worked hard with Altrincham BID get funding promote the use of cargo bikes, and our town has just won a major award and £15,000 prize in recognition of the work that is going on to make Altrincham more sustainable.

Local residents talk to us a lot about road safety issues. This will continue to be a big focus for me if re-elected. We have campaigned for the council to create more 20 mph zones, school streets, safe cycle routes and adopt the Vision Zero target for deaths and serious injuries on our roads. Two new safe crossings have been built in Altrincham in the last year. I use my position as Green Group leader to make sure the council takes these issues seriously.

Being a councillor is about far more than voting at council meetings. I also work very closely with local organisations like our schools, parks groups, Timperley Sports Club, Altrincham Community Hub, Altrincham in Bloom, the Civic Society, Trafford Leisure and the Golf Course. We encourage and help them to make improvements to our local area and become more environmentally friendly. This is work that pays off over time. That is why I humbly ask for your vote so I can continue the job of making Altrincham a better, greener place to live.
